Sock Ducks are Great Quack

I've already told you about my various baking experiences in Home Economics, when I've made buns, and I've shared the  whole process of making the fabulous chocolate biscuit plum pudding and decorating it.

So now that it is into the second half of the school year we have moved on and are now focusing on sewing. We were all shown how to make a sock dog, but we were given the option of making any sock animal we wanted.

Obviously yours truly here decided to make a sock duck to be unique. I won't lie, I googled various phrases to get the tutorial such as:

"How to make sock animals easy"
"Easy sock animals"
"Sock ducks"

"Sock ducks for beginners"

"Easy sock ducks"

Well I am a beginner to the whole "needle and thread" idea. I found a very simple and straightforward tutorial on how to make the most adorable little ducks. It's on YouTube if you're interested in making one. Easter idea anyone?

I'll keep you posted as Mr.Duck comes to life!

Busy times

Ahh...early February. The time of stress for 3rd and 6th years nationwide as they sit their mocks or "pre's".  The school is tense and busy as students frantically dash around looking for maths sets and french verb rules. I can't believe it was this time last year that I was sitting the mocks myself.

Now, one year on, I have a very different agenda.
TY Life in February consists of Mini Company presentations, Scifest preperations, Religion book reviews, and of course the inevitable "Subject Choice for Leaving Cert" form that has to be filled out. DUN DUN DUNNNN!

So if you'll excuse me I have to go and ponder about the life decisions that I'm about to make within the next few days.....

Eolaí Óg na mBliana

(For those of you who don't understand Irish, keep scrolling down to my previous post which is the English version)

Chuaigh mé ar turas scoile go dtí Comórtas Eolaí Óg na mbliana le déanaí. D'fhág mé an scoil le mo chairde ar a naoi a chlog sa maidin. Thógamar an bhus go dtí an RDS agus shroicheamar an áit ag a deich a chlog.

Bhí tionscalamh ag mo chairde Jade agus Shamira ann. Rinne siad stáidéar ar dhaoine ag obair le chéile agus ar fhoireann a ndearna dul chun cinn. Ba tionscalamh siceolaíochta é. Bhí a dtionscalamh go han-mhaith agus bhíomar an bródúil as iad.

Tá suim agam i bhfisic agus mata agus mar a gheall sin chaith mé a lán ama ag féachaint ar tionscalamh a bhaineann leis na rudaí seo. Bhí tionscalamh ag chara mo chara Róisín. Rinne sé stáidéar ar mata agus ceoil agus an gaol atá idir iad. Bhí sé an suimiúil.

Bhí ar gach duine chun obair go dian nuair a raibh siad ag ullmhú don chomortas. Bhí obair na gcapall le déanamh acu! Thosaigh siad ag obair sa mhí Mean Fomhair agus chaith siad an gheimreadh ag obair gan stad.

Bhí trí grupaí ó mo scoil sa chomórtas. Mar a dúirt mé chéanna rinne Jade agus Shamira a dtionscalamh ar dhaoine ag obair le chéile. Rinne Linda agus Megan tionscalamh ar bhuacaillí agus cailíní agus cé a insint níos mó bhréag. Rinne Caolann a dtionscalamh ar asma. Bhí gach tionscalamh an-suimiúil, agus bhi an scoil an bhróidiúil as iad.

Bhain mé an taitneamh as an lá. Chaith mé an lá le mo chairde agus bhí an chraic againn. Chomh maith leis sin, tá spéis agam san eolaíocht agus bhí mé ar mhuin na muice chun an lá a chaitheamh ann.

BT Young Scientist

When we went back to school we spent the day in BT Young Scientist Exhibition in the RDS in Dublin. That's not too shabby a way of starting TY Part 2, am I right or am I right? Right right right.... (If you get that you're cool)

Anyhows back to the BTYSE. The projects were all great, everyone put so much effort into theirs! My friends Jade and Shamira qualified for the BT and so were there. They had a project on teamwork and what makes up the ideal team. Spoiler: It's best to know the people you're with, not assign a leader, and actually be of different age groups. Now ya know!

Overall we had a great day looking around at all the projects. The place was packed and there was a great atmosphere too. Definitely a great way to start the second half of TY!

Work Experience in P&G

As part of our Transition Year course we are required to find 3 different work placements. Having completed my first work experience placement in a local primary school, I decided to try a completely different work environment for term 2.
So I found myself sitting in the Oral B manufacturing site on Wednesday the 6th of January for the first of 6 weeks.

I spent my first day in the HR Offices, organising letters and filing them, and also taking old cards off the security system. It was very enjoyable; a complete different atmosphere to that in the primary school.

Although I found the day significantly longer, starting earlier and ending later than usual, it was a great experience to have and I'm looking forward to spending the next few weeks there.

New Year, New Post

Happy new year everyone!

Wow I haven't posted since last year! (*response of loud groans*)

Ok so it's a new year, and a chance to clean that slate and do that thing you've been meaning to do for a while. Woohoo resolutions, am I right?

So although I'm not one to dramatically change my lifestyle once the clock hits midnight, I have made a few mini resolutions or promises to myself.

1) Drink more water. Hydration is key, and it is also the way to keep skin clear  and have less headaches :)
2) Worry less. Life is too short to be stressed over the small things. I'm trying to remind myself of a few things to help me along with this:

The past is over and the future hasn't happened yet, the only thing that is real is the present so live in it.

I (and every other human alive) have a 100% survival rate of everything life has thrown at me so far. I'm nailing this whole "life" thing.

I'd also like to stop procrastinating, but I'll make that resolution later.

Ice Ice Baby

After our tests, on Monday the 21st of December we all went to Blanchardstown shopping centre to go ice skating! Wippee!

We got to spend the morning looking around the shops and buying last minute presents for people, and we then got our totally nutritious lunch from McDonalds!

When we made our way over to the rink we got kitted out with skates and then we were let loose on the ice! We rented the rink out so we had it all to ourselves. It was a funny sensation ice skating but we got used to it after a while.

Luckily none of us fell, but I almost jinxed myself when I proclaimed that while still on the ice and I slipped just as I said that! I kept my balance though; don't worry nobody had broken bones for Christmas;)
